Client case study - PushON - eCommerce in the construction sector

The client

Ecommerce agency PushON, based in Manchester.

PR objective

Spark an industry-wide conversation around eCommerce adoption in the construction sector and position PushON as the go-to expert to lead it.

The PR brief

Construction is one of the UK’s largest sectors but when it comes to eCommerce, it's still in its digital infancy.

PushON came to Hendrix Rose PR with a challenge:
How do we lead a change in mindset in a traditionally offline industry that’s historically built around face-to-face interactions and traditional supply chains?

Our campaign needed to educate, provoke thought, and inspire action to show that today’s B2B customers expect the same seamless service they receive from B2C retailers - faster service, mobile-friendly experiences, and interactions that feel tailored to their specific needs. But more than that, it had to shine a spotlight on the untapped digital potential within construction supply.

With a foundation of research-led insight, we set out to launch Building the Future: the evolution of construction eCommerce - a campaign designed to raise awareness, ignite debate, and drive traffic to PushON’s website.

Campaign objectives

We set out to:

  • Position PushON as a thought leader in construction eCommerce.
  • Educate and empower key stakeholders on digital transformation.
  • Generate high-quality media coverage and backlinks.
  • Drive targeted traffic to PushON’s website.
  • Increase visibility among decision-makers in the construction supply chain.

The insight

We surveyed 250 construction industry leaders and eCommerce decision-makers to uncover what’s stalling digital transformation and where the opportunities lie. The aim being to provide a comprehensive look at the digital readiness of the construction industry to better understand where the sector stands and where it needs to go.

The data revealed a powerful story:

  • 1 in 4 construction suppliers risk being left behind by the digital shift.
  • Budget constraints and resistance to change remain top barriers.
  • Half of respondents cited AI as key to future eCommerce success.
  • Only 16% are prioritising sustainability and reducing their carbon footprint in eCommerce operations
  • Only 11% prioritise marketing and marketing technology, despite its role in customer acquisition and retention.

This research became the heartbeat of our campaign.

The strategy and activation

We turned research into relevance. The campaign launched with a robust content rollout:

  • A flagship Building the Future report was hosted on PushON’s website.
  • Bespoke press releases announcing findings across key topics: budget resistance, marketing shortcomings, AI, and digital gaps were created and issued to the media
  • Targeted outreach to leading trade, construction, and digital media.

We also lined up expert commentary and podcast interviews with PushON leaders to deepen authority and engagement. Every angle was rooted in data and created to speak to the construction sector’s unique context and audience.

The Results

Over the 5-month campaign period, we secured:

40+ articles secured in the construction press, including Builders Merchants News, Professional Builders Merchant, Building Talk, UK W&ED, Electrical Times, Building Design and Construction and Build Review

25 follow backlinks from high-authority domains

Over 84 million combined media reach

Podcast interviews with industry leaders to deepen storytelling including a featured expert interview podcast with UK Construction Blog

Significant referral traffic boost to PushON’s website

What We Learned

Timing and relevance matter. We aligned the rollout with sector conversations around AI, digital skills, and transformation.

Industry-specific nuance is critical. We translated digital pain points into construction-specific narratives - bridging the gap.

Insight-led storytelling wins. Real data builds trust and engagement in traditional sectors like construction.

Multi-phase momentum works. Breaking the campaign into stages helped maintain media attention over time.

The Impact

PushON’s Building the Future campaign has helped redefine how the construction supply chain sees its digital future.

More than media coverage, the campaign delivered lasting credibility. PushON is now firmly positioned as a leading authority in digital transformation for construction.

The brand saw:

  • A sharp rise in qualified inbound enquiries
  • Improved SEO through relevant, followed media links
  • Greater visibility with high-value construction audiences
  • Stronger brand alignment with innovation and leadership
